Spring Ballet

River Region Ballet, Inc. is now hiring for the position of 2022 Spring Ballet Creative Director! Interested parties should email their resume to RiverRegionBalletInfo@gmail.com by the application deadline of April 25, 2021.

The Spring Ballet Creative Director is responsible for selecting and producing the ballet for the 2022 Spring season, including but not limited to coordination of auditions and casting, choreography, rehearsals, and final production. Additionally, the Spring Ballet Creative Director will prepare and present goals & objectives with expected expenses to the Board at the annual meeting (July).

CREATIVE DIRECTOR for a Spring Production

Performance Season (every even year)

  • Select ballet for the Spring season.

  • Prepare and present goals and objectives with expected expenses by the annual (July) meeting for the upcoming fiscal year. Review at each board meeting.

  • Provide information for grant writing when requested.

New Ballets

  • Research materials on existing ballets and/or research ideas for new ballets

  • Find music, edit, and create a workable score. Create cd’s for rehearsals and performance.

  • Work with tech crew on lighting, special effects, etc.

  • Work in collaboration with costume and prop/set chairs to bring RRB vision to life for sets, costumes, props and/or headpieces.

  • Choreograph and/or notate the ballets

Spring Production

    • Create information packets for board members including background information on ballets, audition information, information for advertising

    • Create audition forms (for copying) and audition rating forms.

    • Determine audition steps and music.

    • Secure audition judges.

    • Conduct audition.

    • Determine audition outcome based on the judges’ recommendations.

    • Cast ballet from Senior & Junior Company members and auditions.

    • Provide cast list to board members 72 hours (3 days) prior to Costume Day.

    • Create cast information packet (for copying) including preliminary information, rehearsal reference, costume and make-up, volunteer form, T-shirt order form, Program message form, Supporter form, ticket order information to be distributed on Costume Day (consult with appropriate board members for current information).

    • Create Rehearsal Schedules (for copying).

    • Meet with Production team (VP of Production, Costume Chair, Prop/Set Chair, Volunteer Chair, Lights and Sound leader, and President)

    • Work in co-ordination with Costume Chair for to ensure proper costume fittings.

    • Work in collaboration with costume and prop/set chairs to bring RRB vision to life for sets, costumes, props and/or headpieces.

    • Rent any necessary backdrops (with Set chair)

    • Stage entire ballet/production

    • Rehearse ballet/production and/or oversee rehearsals

    • Provide any cast information for publicity to Marketing Chair.

    • Create performance packet (for copying), including general information, dress rehearsal information, performance information.

    • Work with Set Chair and stage crew on ballet staging / scene changes / cues.

    • Work with tech crew on lighting, special effects, etc.

    • Secure Stage Managers (dance related & separate from stage crew).

    • Provide Stage Managers with dancer, curtain, and prop cues.

    • Put production on the stage.


Cast List Emails and Notices

  • Announce the roles to performers and track acceptance/rejections accordingly.

Performances

  • Oversee all aspects of production on the stage

  • Conduct company class

  • Run sound / music

Guest Artists

    • Secure guest artists for each production and negotiate contracts (Treasurer handles contracts, accommodations, airfare)

    • Provide guest artists with music and/or choreography

    • Rehearse integrate guest artists into production

    • Oversee guest artists' transportation
